Facing Fears

As you guys will learn as you follow me and my journey on this blog, I have anxiety. Crippling anxiety. Social anxiety, situational anxiety, irrational anxiety... you name it, I have got it. Bundled with other things like PTSD, OCD and depression (Long story, you can ask in private), you can visualize that my bathroom looks like a pharmacy just so that I can bring you all laughs and jokes throughout the day.
Well one of those irrational fears that I am blessed with is the fear darkness. I am not a doctor so I dont know the medical term for that, but I know it is a real thing. Every night I sleep with the overhead lights on, at least one lamp on and my TV really loud. All because the idea of being in a dark, quit room is enough to send me into a panic attack.
So continuing my story... My biggest fear happened this week. The power went out in my dorm room! Now I am a doomsday prepper (that is a blog post coming up soon) so I knew I wouldn't be stranded in the pitch black because I have enough candles, flashlights, batteries, and lanterns to keep the whole town lit for a few days. But that isn't the point... I was going to have to face my fear of having a quiet room and not the amount of light that I am used too. I know this sounds pathetic, but I am not judging you so don't judge me. So I had a come to Jesus meeting with myself and made it through 8 hours of being in the dark. I didn't sleep, but I survived.
And that is my lesson for you... You may feel that your current situation or fear is going to kill you, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. You will make it through. You may be battered and bruised and all kinds of shaken up, but in the end you can check it off your list that you made it through your obstacle. Stay strong guys!
