Lets Talk: Money

It makes the world go around. Some kill for it. Others envy it. But why?

I know I am the last person to give anyone a talk about money. I am frivolous. I drive a luxury car. I live in a nice house. I go to a private college. I don't have a job.

But while it may seem that I am living the life of luxury and not worrying about bills and where my next meal will come from, I have lessons to share about having money.

The truth is that it really isn't that great. I know people say all of their problems would go away if they had money, but I am here to tell you that not only do the problems not go away, but they multiply and then multiply again. Money causes people to go crazy and can really destroy you.

Growing up I never needed or wanted for anything. If I saw it and liked it, my mom bought it for me. I never heard the word no. But with that luxury came a lot of hurt. So that I could get anything I wanted, I had to give up my father.

I never have had a relationship with my dad. With business on his mind all day every day, I learned that he was a provider but not a parent. I know it is easy to think how nice it would be to get everything you want and not have to deal with a dad that was always keeping his finger on everything you are doing. But in reality, we crave having parents and rules. I used to do insane things to hopefully get my fathers attention and even though he might be yelling at me, at least he was taking time out of his day to talk or yell at me. I would give every item I had away if I knew that I would have both parents there to offer me love and support. My mom has always been there as my mom and dad, but not having a dad that was actively parenting me really hurt my outlook on men and family.

The next lesson: With money comes fame. WIth fame comes security.

Yes, my family is well known in certain parts of the country and around the world for their line of work. With that comes a lot of crazy people who want what you have. Growing up we travelled on separate airplanes, we drove in separate cars. We had full-time security. We had to take precautions so that we could ensure that our entire family wouldn't be compromised in case of a crazy person. Wit death threats, intruders, and stalkers, you quickly learn that having more money makes you a target and makes your life a living hell because you begin to live in fear at all times.

Reevaluate your life and decide if you want a life of hardships and a big bank account, or an average life that involves love and happy times. The choice is easy. At least it is in my eyes.
