Parents are always a relationship that we have to foster and nurture to keep solid and healthy. But what do you do when you are in an elective relationship?

I have dated off and on throughout college. Currently on, but on the verge of being off (my choice). So I have been thinking about why we, as humans, elect to voluntarily add more stress, commitment, and burden to our lives by being in relationships. Of course there are amazing positives that come with choosing to share your life with someone, but there is also a lot of pain, heartache, and work that comes with a relationship that has substance.

I came to the realization that we as humans, for the most part, have the trait of compromise in our DNA. At times we don't want to accept that part of us, but we are. For example, we are willing to add more stress and work to our plate to have someone to share our life with. In other words, we are compromising with our sanity and mental capacity in order to be with someone. It is so fascinating to me that even through these compromises, people seem to still fight themselves.
